Hi, I’m Jean Pierre Nkinzingabo Tuyizere, a Kigali-based photographer and videographer passionate about storytelling and capturing real-life moments. For me, photography and videography aren’t just professions—they’re a way of honoring people’s stories and experiences. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on projects that connect me to incredible individuals and communities. I’ve collaborated with organizations like SOS Children’s Village Rwanda, Food for the Hungry, and Team Heart Rwanda, where I’ve documented projects that uplift and transform lives. Whether it’s filming the Healthy Teeth Project in rural Rwanda or capturing patient testimonials with Team Heart, I strive to create visuals that tell authentic, impactful stories. I also enjoy sharing what I know, having trained a talented team at Urunana DC in video production. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping others discover their storytelling potential. Welcome to a journey through my lens, I will share stories of resilience, growth, and hope from my photography work across Rwanda and beyond. With over nine years of experience working on humanitarian and community-centered projects, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with NGOs, educational programs, and mission-driven organizations to capture powerful, real-life moments. Each post offers a glimpse into the lives and stories I’ve documented, showcasing the beauty and strength of communities.

Few experiences have been as inspiring as capturing the resilience and dedication of Rwandan farmers working to restore and sustain their land. Recently, I had the opportunity to document the efforts of farmers planting trees on their farms for agroforestry in Nyagihanga, Gatsibo District, and Nyamata, Bugesera District.
The Power of Agroforestry
Agroforestry is more than just planting trees; it’s an age-old practice that brings together farming and forestry, creating a system where trees, crops, and livestock thrive together. By integrating trees into their farms, these farmers are creating a resilient ecosystem that benefits both their livelihoods and the environment. Trees help prevent soil erosion, provide shade, and even increase the soil’s ability to retain water—essential benefits in regions prone to unpredictable weather.
A Day with the Farmers
On the day of the shoot, I arrived early in Nyagihanga and later traveled to Nyamata to capture the process in action. There was a sense of quiet determination among the farmers as they prepared their land, dug holes, and carefully placed saplings into the soil. These weren’t just trees; they were symbols of hope and resilience, representing a brighter, more sustainable future.
The Importance of Storytelling Through Photography
Photographing these farmers and their work in Gatsibo and Bugesera reminded me of the importance of visual storytelling in raising awareness about environmental practices like agroforestry. Every image captured reflects the heart and resilience of people working to protect their land and, in turn, their communities. My goal is to show the world the real faces behind these efforts, to bridge the gap between rural and urban audiences, and to highlight how local actions can contribute to global change.
Reflections on a Greener Future
This experience left me with a renewed respect for these farmers who, in the face of challenges, are choosing a path of sustainability. Through agroforestry, they’re not only securing their livelihoods but also contributing to a healthier planet. My hope is that these images inspire others to support and appreciate the essential work of farmers and communities who are at the front of environmental conservation.
